A draft bill to ban right-hand-drive vehicles was proposed and submitted to Parliament by MP M.Zorigt but caused divided public opinions.

MP M.Zorigt said “About 66 percent of the cars in Mongolia are right-hand-drive vehicles. MP M.Zorigt considered a ban on left-hand-drive vehicles in Mongolia too. However this would require changes to be made to all the traffic regulations, lights and roads for cars to be able to drive on the left side of the road. Therefore it seems better to stay with the existent right side traffic rules on roads and adjust the driving side of vehicles. 

Due to the proposal public response is strong in claiming that the politician is trying to to save his business with this proposal to ban right-hand-drive vehicles that are popular in Mongolia.

If the proposal by MP M.Zorigt is accepted by Parliament the ban on the import of right-hand-drive vehicles would be effective by 2015.
