World Diabetes Day is the global diabetes awareness day which is observed annually on November 14th every year.

Mongolia is observing World Diabetes Day under theme of “Let`s save our future from diabetes,” and is distributing information and posters about preventing diabetes. The information is aimed to raise public awareness about the different types of diabetes,the importance of a quality diagnosis, and how and where to get treatment. Specialists will be conducting training for medical staff in selected districts in Ulaanbaatar City this year. These campaigns against diabetes will run with the support of the Ministry of Health, the National Center of Public Health and WHO in Mongolia.

A recent study shows that the number of diagnosed diabetes patients in Mongolia has increased 20 times in past two decades.

The study has revealed that 3 percent of adults in Mongolia had diabetes in 1999, while in 2009 the number of diabetes patients rose to 6.5 percent.

According to a survey by WHO, it is estimated that 285 million people worldwide had diabetes in 2010 and this number is expected to be doubled by 2030.
