The “Let`s save Tuul River” voluntary movement was launched last week. For the month long environmental protection campaign, Tuul River Basin Administration and Tungaa tuv NGO called the voluntary movement out to clear garbage and rubbish from along the banks of the Tuul River.

The voluntary movement included 1,250 volunteers and staff from the Water Supply and Sewerage Authority of Ulaanbaatar, Power Plants 4 and 5, Nomin Construction, Standard Group, Ulaanbaatar City Road, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Street Project. The movement collected10 tons of rubbish, discarded bottles and various trash from along 22 km of the banks of the Tuul River that flows through Ulaanbaatar.

Ulaanbaatar does not have a recycling project and does not separate rubbish so waste disposal is one of the biggest issues that the city now faces.
