The announcement was as follows:
“Mongolian freestyle wrestlers have improved since Asashoryu led the Mongolian Freestyle Wrestling Federation. The Mongolian freestyle wrestling women”s team placed second at the 2013 Senior World Wrestling Championships in Budapest, Hungary last month. The Mongolian freestyle wrestling women”s team achieved a historical victory winning five medals after competing in seven classes.
Therefore the Japan Wrestling Federation have decided to award Asashoryu for his contribution and efforts for the development of freestyle wrestling in Asia.”
The Japan Wrestling Federation Award Ceremony will be held during the Freestyle Wrestling Championships Japan 2013 in Tokyo, Japan in December this year.
