Speaker attends additional meetings during the IPU Assembly

Speaker Z.Enkhbold with accompanying MPs A.Bakei, D.Battsogt and B.Sarangerel is attending in the 129th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly which is ongoing in Geneva, Switzerland.

The IPU was established in 1889. The national parliaments of 162 countries are members of the IPU, and 10 regional parliamentary assemblies are associate members. The IPU has permanent observer status at the United Nations and general consultative status with the Economic and Social Council.

The IPU Assembly is the principal statutory body that expresses the views of the Inter-Parliamentary Union on political issues. It brings together lawmakers to study international problems and make recommendations for action.

Speaker Z.Enkhbold attended separate meetings with Speaker Lok Sabha of India, ( lower house of Parliament ) Mrs. Meira Kumar, President of Australian Senate, Mr. John Hogg and a member of Japan`s House of Representative, Uesugi Mitsuhiro during the 129th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly.

Mrs. Meira Kumar and Speaker Lok Sabha of India expressed gratitude on bilateral relations and emphasized the successful bilateral cooperation in such fields as culture, information technology and education between the two countries during the separate meeting, adding that the Buddhist religion makes the two countries more connected than other countries.

Speaker Z.Enkhbold and Mr. Uesugi Mitsuhiro, a member of Japan`s House of Representatives, agreed to boost bilateral relations and cooperation on mining, minerals, energy, infrastructure, livestock and agriculture between the two countries.

Speaker Z.Enkhbold emphasized the Australian official development assistance to Mongolia has played an important role in Mongolian human resource development and expressed gratitude for the new Mongolian generation who are educated in Australia who can give their efforts to the development of the country.
