World leaders, Government heads and Foreign Ministers have gathered in New York for the 68th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon received the President of Mongolia Ts.Elbegdorj to exchanging views on cooperation between Mongolia and the UN and international issues on September 22nd.

At the beginning of the meeting UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said “First of all, congratulations on winning your second term as President of Mongolia. Mongolia has been supportive in developing democracy, enhancing women`s participation and activity as well as on issues such as climate changes and protecting the rights of landlocked countries.

Mongolia chaired the Community of Democracies for the past two years and successfully hosted the 7th Ministerial Meeting of the Community of Democracies last July. The UN highly appreciates the important role that Mongolia is playing to support UN peace-keeping operations. I express gratitude for your visit to Sudan to see your country”s peacekeeping troops”.

In return President Ts.Elbegdorj expressed thanks to the UN Secretary General as the UN has been supportive to Mongolia in implementing its development goals and emphasized that Mongolia aims to remain an active participant in international community operations.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and President Ts.Elbegdorj exchanged opinions on the security challenges in Northeast Asia that have become strained in international relations.

President Elbegdorj stated that “Mongolia has determined the priority of its foreign policy as enhancing bilateral cooperation with Asian countries and being involved in interregional integration. Assuring security in Northeast Asia is vital to intensifying cooperation between Asia and Pacific region countries, to maintain sustainable development accelerating integration.

From this point of view I suggest to hold talks and discussions in Ulaanbaatar on the security issues of Northeast Asia to motivate bilateral and diversified talks between countries in the region.”

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon expressed thanks to President Elbegdorj for his active participation in international community activities and noted that he believed Mongolia will make efforts and collaborate actively to solve many challenging problems that the international community encounters.

At the end of the meeting UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said that the UN will support and collaborate in Mongolia`s initiatives.
