The Embassy of Japan in Mongolia welcomed Mongolian sports journalist for discussions about the 2020 Summer Olympics on Thursday September 12th.
At the beginning of the meeting Counselor Shinichiro Hayashi of the Embassy of Japan in Mongolia said that “Japanese people are excited about Tokyo being selected to host the 2020 Summer Olympic Games. Now everyone in Japan is talking about it.” Shinichiro Hayashi also stated that he promises to make more opportunities for Mongolian journalists during the 2020 Summer Olympic Games.
– First of all congratulations to Tokyo for its successful bid to host the Olympics. How do you feel?
– The 2020 Olympics host city decision was made on Sunday morning and it was announced officially that the 2020 Summer Olympic Games will be held in Tokyo. I have received a big congratulation from many Mongolians I have met since then. Now I am even more delighted about it.
– Is there a new demand for construction for the Summer 2020 Olympics? Is a new stadium expected to be built?
– Actually there will be dozens of new structures built in the suburban districts and harbors, but almost all of them will be wedged into downtown Tokyo to reduce transit times and energy costs. A compact Olympic Village will be built on Tokyo Harbor and, when the Games wrap up, it will be converted into housing.
The “64 Games were also a technological milestone. Post-war reconstruction after World War II in Japan was a huge. Those stadiums still exist now. Tokyo plans to reuse the 1964 Olympic Stadiums for 2020.
– What is special about the 2020 Summer Olympics?
– Thousands of lives were lost when entire towns were devastated after Japan suffered a natural disaster. The World saw how Japan suffered great damage. The 2020 Games are designed to show that Japan can once again stand tall despite the devastating natural disaster. That is the special thing that the 2020 Summer Olympics will represent.
