The opening ceremony for the “Salkhit” 50 megawatt (MW) wind farm, part of Mongolia`s first wind power project, will happen on June 20th.

The “Salkhit” wind farm developed by Clean Energy LLC is the biggest investment ever in Mongolia that is not mining related. 

Currently 27 wind turbines have been erected at the site during this phase of the project and a total of 31 wind turbines will be installed and their combined power will be connected to the grid.  Each wind turbine weighs 245 tons and has a tower 80 meter high with blade 39.8 meter long.

The Salkhit wind farm is situated in Sergelen sum in Tuv aimag covering 12,800 hectares. Further the area will be connected to the Central Electricity system. The 175 billion MNT wind farm is expected to provide almost 100,000 homes with electricity.

Salkhit will generate enough current to answer about 5 percent of the country’s needs while achieving a carbon emission reduction of approximately 164,000 metric tons annually.
