Workers of Petro China Daqing Tamsag in Dornod aimag have been on strike over working conditions and salary since Friday. But the local website dnews.mn reported that a steppe wildfire broke out near the oil wells of Petro China Daqing Tamsag at the time of strike.

The blaze flared up in Sangiin dalai area of Matad sum at around 2:00pm on Sunday May 26th.

The rapidly spreading wildfire, encouraged by gusty winds and extremely dry conditions cut across large fields. The wildfire spread from its original source near to the oil wells. The 50 Mongolian workers, who were on strike at the time, arrived at the scene and extinguish the wildfire at around 7:00 pm on Sunday evening.

None of over 1500 Chinese workers wanted to help extinguish the wildfire.

This is the fourth time wildfire has taken hold in the Tamsag area since 2013.

The reason why the fire occurred is uncertain.
