Out of a total of 111 incidents nationwide, 76 crimes and incidents related to foreigners were reported in the Capital city in 2011. It was reported that a total of 121 offences affected foreigners and tourists in 2012 with 91 reported incidents taking place in Ulaanbaatar City.
Tourists and travelers often became the victims of pickpockets during their short stay in Ulaanbaatar due to a lack of assistance and knowing where to complain or claim.
Therefore the Ulaanbaatar Metropolitan Police along with the Ulaanbaatar City Tourism Board are to employ more security patrols at hot spots for pick pocketing close to major tourist hotels and attractions. The aim is to discourage tourists and travelers from becoming victims of pickpocketing and other offences by June 1st.
Extra security patrols police officers are being trained in language skills because of this new measure.
