Democratic Party members are in a battle over who will replace the dismissed Deputy Speaker S.Bayartsogt. The DP majority caucus is scheduled to discuss the possible candidate for the post the next meeting. Due to the 7th Ministerial Conference of the Community of Democracies the caucus meeting has been postponed until Tuesday.

Even now it is still uncertain who will be proposed as a candidate for the post of Deputy Speaker. Public speculation holds that MP R.Gonchigdorj, G.Batkhuu, R.Amarjargal, M.Batchimeg and R.Burmaa will compete for the post.

According to political circumstances, if the majority maintains the principle to keep balance among factions of the ruling party, the new Deputy Speaker should come from the Altan Gadas fraction.

MPs R.Gonchigdorj and G.Batkhuu could compete for the post representing the fraction Altan Gadas. MP R.Gonchigdorj, former speaker of parliament during 1996-2000, played an important role in maturing the newly formed parliament after the democratic changes. He was named once as a possible candidate for Speaker after the June parliamentary election.

MP G.Batkhuu has experience of working as Deputy Speaker during the former Government. But he is expected to face strong opposition from a minority. MP G.Batkhuu who was nominated to parliament from Uvurkhangai Electoral District took the oath just before the controversial debate was resolved.

But MP R.Amarjargal and M.Batchimeg are believed to have support from the opposition party. MP N.Nomtoibayar said during last week`s plenary session meeting that “There are two MPs who can find a healthy resolution and maintain the unity principle. These are MP R.Amarjargal and MP M.Batchimeg”

MP R.Amarjargal is always left behind in any appointment because his individual stance; some MPs are often prompted to use his politician`s experience and knowledge for the State.

Even though MP M.Batchimeg is one of the youngest politicians, she has her own aspect and status.  She is now chairing the Ethic Sub-Committee of Parliament.
