Prime Minister S.Batbold has promised representatives of
Buddhist monasteries and museums that the state will allocate money for
renovation work and proper preservation of religious manuscripts, monuments and
other items. An estimated MNT270 million is required urgently on the account.
MNT 80 million and MNT40 million of this will be spent on
repairs in the Amarbayasgalant and Vangan monasteries respectively. Upgrading
the electricity system will cost MNT 80 million at the Bogd Khan Museum, MNT30
million at the Choijin Lama Museum, and MNT 40 million at the Gandan monastery.
Admitting that no money has been spent on the upkeep of
monasteries for many years, Batbold said protection of national heritage cannot
be done without state support. An example has to be set for coming generations.
These places also draw foreign tourists.
