Prominent political figures statue to be restored

One of the statues that has stood to tell of historical events and stands for the people in Ulaanbaatar city, a statue of Yumjaagiin Tsedenbal has been removed for restoration from its place in front of the State Academic Drama Theatre today, April 16th.

The prominent Mongolian political figure, the leader who ruled the country for 44 years, Yumjaagiin Tsedenbal, played a big role in launching a campaign to have Mongolians literate and was awarded by UNESCO in the 1950`s, to maintain diplomat relations with 94 countries and for joining over 60 international organizations in 1984.

Tsedenbal remained in open arrest in Moscow until his death. His body was brought back to Mongolia where it was buried in Altan-Ulgii in 1991.

After his death, the Statue of the prominent political figure was erected in front of the State Academic Drama Theatre and the place was been named after him.

The Implementing Agencies of the Governor”s Office of Ulaanbaatar city removed the statue to restore it due to fractures in the plinth.
