After a long legal battle, Tyrannosaurus Bataar will be sent back to Mongolia. Manhattan US Attorneys represented the Mongolian Government and were able to stop the New York auction of the Tyrannosaurus Bataar skeleton found and smuggled from the Mongolian Gobi desert.

The Tyrannosaurus Bataar fossil is expected to return to Mongolia on May 7th.

The Minister of Culture, Sport and Tourism spoke to the media about the return.

-When will Tyrannosaurus Bataar return home?

– US Department of Homeland Security officials will hand Tyrannosaurus Bataar to Mongolian officials to send back to Mongolia on May 7th in New York. After that we will have the right to pack and load Tyrannosaurus Bataar. Until then, the US is responsible for the protection and welfare of the fossil. Only after carried the fossil has been officially handed to Mongolian officials will the shipping date be clear.

When we transport the fossil we will make suggestions of which companies to package and carrier it in order to have it weighed, wrapped and carried to Mongolia. Recently we suggested Korean Air. The Airline promised to answer after being given certain information.

Everything will be clear by May 7th. Then we will arrange the process. Now it is too early to say.

-Where is Tyrannosaurus Bataar expected to be placed in Mongolia? Has a place been found yet?

-We have planned to exhibit Tyrannosaur Bataar in Lenin`s Museum. Currently the ownership of the museum is in debate. The trial where the debate of controversial ownership of the museum will be held is in Wednesday April 10th. We hope the issue will be solved. We believe the museum is state owned.
