The biennial World Harmony Run, first organized by a
US-based Indian philosopher and campaigner for peace, Sri Chinmoy, in 1987,
reached Mongolia
on May 15. As always, it was flagged off at the UN headquarters in New York and will cover
more than 100 countries spread across continents. Sri Chinmoy visited Mongolia in
2007 but passed away soon after.

The Asian leg of this year’s run began on April 24 in Hiroshima
and reached Havirga in Dornod province after covering some 2,000 km in Japan, South Korea
and China.
One Mongolian, one Russian, and one American have been carrying the torch of
peace and harmony across 2,600 km in Mongolia, from the east to the west.
They will pass the torch to another team at Gorno-Altaisk in Russia, via
Tsagaannuur in Bayan-Ulgii. This will miot likely be on June 7, if the runners
keep to their schedule.

Beginning 1995, this is Mongolia’s
13th participation in the world event and this year’s team was
received by President Ts. Elbegdorj when it stopped in Ulaanbaatar on Monday.
