Traffic Police are soon to introduce a specific device used to check driving licenses. Our journalist spoke to J.Odbayar, an inspector from the Prevention Division of the Traffic Police.

-It is believed that the Traffic Police will introduce a specific device to check driving licenses soon. Can you give us more details about it?

-The new driving licenses that are now being printed have a chip that contains all the drivers data. The chip will be available this summer. For other licenses traffic police officers will have a driving license reader. This is one of the measures to negate the need for traffic police to use cash fines. Therefore we believe the total fines for the violations of traffic laws will no longer be used.

-What are the advantages of the new device?

-When the new device is in use, traffic police officers will not have to ask information about the driver from the police data center. It takes a long time. For instance traffic police officers cannot be sure how often a driver is involved in a traffic accident or has broken a traffic rule.

The international standard device will make traffic police services to civilians easier and faster. Drivers will have to pay fines for a violation of traffic law via bank account instead of paying cash in hand.

-How is the progress going for making the new device operational?

-A plan of the progress was submitted to the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister and the Government support the plan. Therefore the new devices will soon be available.

-Is the new device only for checking driver`s licenses? Are there any other uses or advantages?

-Actually it will be easier to get information on vehicles with the help of this new device.

Currently if there is a hit and run accident, traffic police officers have to ask the driver`s home address and phone number from the traffic police data center. We spend too much time and money during this process.

But the traffic police can find out the required information from a driver at once with the help of the new device. Therefore we believe there will be an improvement in traffic crimes with this new device.
