Firefighters from the General Emergency Authority extinguished the fire around 4:30 when reporters arrived at the place. Experts are working to determine the reason for the fire.
The National Library had a complete repair done with the backing of the Ministry for Education due to power cuts because of service wear and tear just before the New Year.
Servicemen said the power line is currently strained that may be cause of the fire.
The fire was near to the book depository of western literature. It is said that the fire would have destroyed the book depository if firefighters were any later in putting out the fire.
Cameras were installed at the National Library so fire experts are able to check the records to determine the reason.
The Chairman of the National Library, Kh.Chilaajav, said that the “power cuts are happening more often, because the building is too old. We keep complaining about the problem to the authorities. But efforts are small. This year we are to start a new construction project. But it is necessary to start the project in time in order to make the library operational.”
