Mongolia and China sign memorandum

Chinese top legislator, Wu Bangguo, arrived at Chingis Khaan airport to start an official visit at the invitation of Speaker Z.Enkhbold on Wednesday.

Speaker Z.Enkhbold greeted Wu Bangguo, the chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, at the State Palace.

Before beginning discussion on a bilateral agreement, Z.Enkhbold stated that “I am glad that the chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress is making an official visit to Mongolia with delegates. This is the first time in 16 years the chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress has visited. I hope this visit will strengthen our bilateral strategic partnership but also parliamentary relations between our two countries.”

Mr Wu Bangguo replied that “Even though the weather is very cold, I can feel Mongolian people`s warm hearted hospitality. This is the first time I have visited Mongolia. I honestly believe this visit will bring success to strengthen our bilateral strategic partnership between Mongolia and China and will intensify parliamentary relations between our two countries”.

The Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People`s Congress also noted that the borders between Mongolia and China are with not only great mountains and rivers but also a 4700 km long open area.

It is said that you can choose your friends but not your neighbors. Mongolia-China relations go back over 60 years. Especially since bilateral economic relations have been encouraged and developed to bring a new relations.

Legislative senior officials from both countries exchanged views on bilateral friendly relations and cooperation on trade, economy and the mining sector.

The Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People`s Congress said that “China unveiled a new leader last year. Mongolia is an important neighbor for China. I am happy that the Mongolian Government focuses on strengthening cooperation and relations in all sectors with China. China has respected the independence of Mongolia but also its policy on foreign and internal relations for a long time and we will continue to do so in the future.

I am pleased that Mongolia has a foreign policy about Taiwan and Tibet in line with China.  We hope Mongolia will stand by this view in the future.”

The meeting continued for almost two hours and ended with a successful signing of a memorandum.

At the meeting M.Enkhbold, the Deputy speaker, L.Bold, the Minister for Foreign Relations, Ts.Sukhbaatar, the Ambassador from Mongolia to China, M.Batchimeg, the Chairman of the Mongolia-China parliamentary group and other senior officials of State agencies from Mongolia were in attendance. From the Chinese side Wu Bangguo, the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, Zhang Zhiqun, the Vice Foreign Minister and Wang Xiao Long, the Ambassador from China to Mongolia were presence at the meeting that was held behind closed doors.
