During Monday’s cabinet meeting the donation for establishing a research center for land locked developing countries was discussed and directions were given to the Minister of Finance and Minister of Foreign Affairs to take action to make it part of the State budget during the budget amendment for 2013. There are 31 landlocked developing countries.

The government decision was given to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and will reflect the cost in the budget amendment for the next year.  But most of the countries are underdeveloped due to complex reasons such as high transport costs, weak competitive capacity, small volume of foreign trade and exports and lack of infrastructure.

In 2006 Mongolia initiated the idea of establishing a research center for land locked countries in Ulaanbaatar and to gather intelligence with the world’s top scientists and economists.

This center, to be established in Ulaanbaatar, is to benefit the economy and social development of Mongolia and will be the first international intergovernmental organization of its kind.
