According to article 4.1 in the law against alcoholism, with the suggestion by the Professional Inspection Agency based on state inspectors` remarks, the Ministry of Industry and Agriculture submitted an item to be discussed by Government calling for the cancelling of 25 companies’ special licenses.

The Professional Inspection Agency submitted an introduction of inspections for alcoholic drinks production quality and security according to decree 1/2399 by the Agency on August 8th 2012. A decision was made during the Directors Board meeting of the Professional Inspection Agency where the State Inspectors recommended to cancel the following companies’ licenses on October 10th in 2012 to the Government.

The Government accepted the decision by the Professional Inspection Agency to cancel the special licenses for 3 spirit, 17 alcohol, 4 wine and 5 beer production licenses during Saturday`s meeting.

The number of specially licensed food industries in Mongolia has declined by 60 percent than what it was in 2004.

No new special licenses for the alcohol industry have been granted since 2008.

The alcohol industry market is structured with 65.3% beer, 29.6% alcohol, 4.0% spirits and 0.1% wine.
