
The State Academic Drama Theatre opened its winter session (its 81st season) on 9th November with the classic tragedy, Hamlet, by William Shakespeare. Executive director of the State Academic Drama Theatre N.Naranbaatar awarded the right to perform Hamlet last October when the theatre announced a tender to select the best director for the play. Starring State Culture Leading artist S.Bold-Erdene as Prince Hamlet, State Laureate Artist U.Uranchimeg as Gertrude, People`s artist P.Tserendagva as Claudius, State Laureate Artist D.Jargalsaikhan as Polonius and young, beautiful artist A.Ganchimeg as Ophelia. The tragedy of Hamlet has been staged again 33 years after it was first performed in the Mongolian theatre. On the stage in 1979, people`s honored artist Jamsranjav starred as Prince Hamlet and People`s Artist, State honored Suvd played Ophelia.
The State Academic Drama Theatre first staged the Russian classic play The Government Inspector by Gogol in 1936 when it was only five years old. The theatre has since shown performances of over 40 classic plays to audience and revealed the talents of so many artists.
