The new Government is the third to discuss the issue whether or not to privatize MIAT. Recently the Standing Committee on Economy introduced the main direction of State policy on the Mongolian Airline to parliament members. The policy aims to privatize 49 percent of MIAT to private air carrier companies. Engineers and technical staff support the privatization of MIAT and want to limit the State owned stake of the company. But the Mongolian Airline Pilots Association and the Aircraft Engineers and Technicians association delivered a petition to parliament demanding the release of more details on the privatization of MIAT in the Mongolian Airline policy by the State.
The petition suggested that parliament consider privatizing 49 percent of MIAT. MIAT employees who have developed the airline since 1993 without any support from the State want to have at least 15 percent of the stake in the privatization for free. The employees also demand parliament to not sell МIАТ to any foreign or domestic company which does not share its market experience or to secure privatization by selling MIAT via the Mongolian Stock Exchange in a legal and open manner.
