
Some MPs of the opposition party MPRP held a sit-in strike blocking the MPP building. The protest by MPRP members is related to up-coming local election. The Election Committee in Sukhbaatar district had refused to register 12 members of MPRP as candidates in local election. The Election Committee in Sukhbaatar district refused to register the members as those members are still members of MPP. The Mongolian People”s Revolutionary Party which was established in 1921 is the oldest political party in Mongolia. However the party reverted to its original name by dropping the word “Revolutionary”, resulting in a split in the party in which the breakaway faction retained the previous name in 2010. But after an internal split, the MPRP name was adopted by a breakaway faction led by former president Nambar Enkhbayar. In the sit-in strike members of MPRP protested the Sukhbaatar district Election Committee`s decision by blocking the gate of MPP building on 2nd November. The members of MPRP held slogan words and insisted that the 12 members be registered as candidate in the local election.
