MPs elected from the MPP held a meeting on October 22nd and reported it to the press media.  The MPP, the opposition party, became the minority in parliament after the parliament election last June.  They now refuse to accept two new members of the DP from the Uvurkhangai province.  The MPP claims the Election General Committee made such a controversial decision on the Uvurkhangai voting unit by accepting DP candidates as members in parliament.  Despite this, the MPP says they are ready to solve challenging issues facing the country but they will still protest the oath-taking of the two parliament members of the DP from the Uvurkhangai province as they believe that it is illegal.

Opposition party, MPP member O.Enkhtuvshin:

-”This country faces many urgent issues related to the budget and monetary concerns which is more vital than oath-taking.  The MPP is ready to attend to these in session to solve the issues.  However, parliament preferred an oath-taking ceremony over urgent issues and postponed session for two weeks. There was enough time to compromise with them but the DP did not intend to compromise with us so we are going to appeal to the Constitutional Court.”The President Ts.Elbegdorj recommended two offers related to current political circumstances when he met the Head of MPP O.Enkhtuvshin and the Secretary General of MPP G.Zandanshatar on October 22nd.

The President said “The State activity must be constant and legal. The Constitutional basics should not be violated.”

Then the President suggested two solutions to current political issues to the Heads of the MPP. The President said that he is ready to submit a draft law to make amendments to laws related to functions of parliament on the basis of some conclusions. He said that he hoped the MPs could reach a solution to get out of dead lock regarding the controversial matters.

The second offer he suggested was to pass Budget 2013, which is vital for the country and the people living and working here. He said “The parliament used to pass budget drafts on the 1st of December, but, according to a new Budget law, the 2013 budget should be passed two weeks earlier than before. I will ask the Speaker and Prime Minister to focus on the issue. “

The Heads of MPP said at the end of the meeting “Basically we agree with your offer but we need to discuss it with other members.”
