Mongolia celebrates Book Day

On August 24, 2012, President Elbegdorj issued a
decree instituting a Book Day to promote reading and publishing books. The
decree provides for instituting national Book Days on the third Saturdays of
September each year.



Following the Presidential Decree, Government and Non-Government Organizations
as well as public organizations – all joined the Book Day campaign under the
slogan “Let’s read together”, on Saturday, September 15, 2012.

Besides the Office of the President number of organizations expressed their
willingness to support the campaign, including Ministry of Education and
Science, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Mongolian Academy of
Sciences, “Oluulaa” club, “Book Universe” Non-Government Organization,
Mongolian Lecturer Center, Mongolian Human Resources Academy, Mongolian
Journalists Union, the National Library of Mongolia, Mongolian Writers Union,
Mongolian Youth Federation, Mongol Mass Media Group, “Majestic” bookstore,
“Munkhiin Useg” Group and Mongolian National Broadcaster.



The Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ts. Oyungerel said “We have joined
the campaign to support Presidential decree on instituting Book Day. We are
pleased to cooperate with the Office of the President in order to deliver the
culture of book to the people and children. In the frame of this campaign
mobile libraries to be presented to the administration of provinces and
districts by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Mobile library
project is dedicated to elders and disabled citizens and residents of rural
area.



Book delivery project will be implemented in local libraries. It is a part of
Governments plan to deliver the 200 thousand books to local provinces. Also, we
are calling for the citizens to donating used books. Citizens will be able to
send their books to their native provinces and schools, through mobile
library”.



After, the Director of National Library of Mongolia S. Chilaajav noted ”Our
library contains magnificent piece of literature and cultural heritage,
collected over many centuries. The collection of these unique books will be
available in two days”.



“Mongolian Writers Union is to organize television talk show dedicated to
writers on Mongolian National Broadcaster. We are giving great importance to
the Book Day and celebrate widely” said the Head of Mongolian Writers Union G.
Munkhtsetseg.



The Advisor to the President A. Ganbaatar emphasized that the President’s
website to launch Mongolian traditional script version.
