The President of Mongolia Tsakhia Elbegdorj has issued a
degree on expand of use old Mongolian script-uigurjin in 2010. To implement
this degree and encourage use of old script President of Mongolia will launch
his official web site in old script.
The new web site created based on international standards
such as W3 and CSS said A.Ganbaatar, Advisor to the President.
Old Mongolian script is known as Uyghurjin Mongol
bichig, was the first writing system created specifically for the Mongolian
language, and was the most successful until the introduction of Cyrillic in
1946. Derived from Uigur, Mongolian is a true alphabet, with separate letters
for consonants and vowels. The Mongolian script has been adapted to write
languages such as oirat and manchu. Alphabets based on this classical vertical
script are used in Inner Mongolia.
Mongolians adopted the latin alphabet in 1931 and the Cyrillic
alphabet in 1937. In 1941 the Mongolian government passed a law to abolish the
Classical Mongol script. After democratic revolution in 1990 lessons of old
script included in secondary schools program.
