President Elbegdorj received world famous paleontologist, professor of the
Canadian University of Alberta, Phillip Currie and paleontologist Eva
Koppelhus.
President Elbegdorj appreciated for their effort to draw world attention to the
Tyrannosaurus Bataar when it was ready to be auctioned illegally in the United
States.
Professor Phillip Currie replied “Mongolia is famous for its dinosaur fossil
and archeological discoveries. But it was clear that Mongolia have lost a large
number of fossils and dinosaur findings for many years. But Mr. President, we
are pleased that you the Head of State gave great importance to this illegal
auction, took an immediate measure and raised the public awareness to this
issue. Thanks to your effort world countries know that Mongolia takes care of
its archeological findings under legislation and has already joined the
international conventions related to this issue”.
The President said “The Government of the United States, International
Paleontological Association, scientists and paleontologists, world leading mass
media organizations BBC and CNN are with us and it was the great lesson for our
Government and officials who are in charge of this kind of issues”.
At the meeting both sides have discussed the possibilities of founding new
paleontological museum in Mongolia. Professor Phillip Currie is the co-founder
of a number of world famous museums and until now he works as advisor to those
museums.
At the end of the meeting, Canadian scientists expressed their hope that the
Tyrannosaurus Bataar will soon be delivered to Mongolia.
