D.Oyuntsetseg, who accompanied President Ts.Elbegdorj on
his recent visit to Moscow to attend the parade on the 65
th
anniversary of victory in World War II, asked him about his  brief stay there.

How
did you like the anniversary parade?

It was amazing. Last year the
Russian President joined us when we celebrated the 70
th anniversary
of victory in the Khalkh-Gol battle, where together with the Soviet army,
Mongolia
defeated invaders. The great Marshal Zhukov’s first big victory was in
Khalkh-Gol. And now I was in
Moscow, remembering
Mongolia’s
very special role in the bigger war that followed and claimed 27 million Soviet
lives. Mongolians will never forget their heroic deeds.

I found an interesting
document among museum exhibits relating to World War II. On June 22, 1941 the Mongolian
Government passed a decree stating: “The great liberating war has started.
Let’s help the Soviet people. Everything to the front, everything for victory.”
So
Mongolia
was at war for five consecutive years.
Mongolians donated 500,000 horses to the Red Army,
some of which even reached
Berlin.
Even though the war in Europe ended on May 9, 1945 it still raged in the
Far East. Mongolia
and the Soviet Union declared war on
Japan
and liberated today’s
China,
the Far East and
Manchuria.

When I met with President
Dmitri Medvedev, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and other world leaders in Moscow we talked about the role of Mongolia in the
war. It was wonderful to watch the parade from so close. Troops of the Allied
forces paraded through Berlin
at the end of the war, and this was the first joint parade since then.

Were
our troops also there?

We made some suggestions but
it could not be arranged. Maybe our army band will participate in next year’s parade.

What did you discuss with
the
Russian President?

We talked about economic and
railway issues. I suggested to both Mr. Medvedev and Mr. Putin that authorities
of the Russian Railway should visit
Mongolia to study the situation first
hand. We also discussed cooperation in uranium mining.

What
about the remaining debt?

Yes, the Mongolrostsvetmet issue
has to be resolved.

What
did you talk about with leaders of other countries?

I discussed world affairs
with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Chairman Hu Jintao of China. I
confirmed our invitation to the Israeli President to visit Mongolia. I also
met with the Speaker of the Russian Duma and the Federation Council Chairman.
