During a visit to Ulan Bator, Foreign Minister Urmas Paet announced that
Estonia will for the first time appoint an ambassador to Mongolia, residing in
Beijing, as well as an honorary consul.

The Estonian and Mongolian foreign ministers met in Mongolian capital on
Tuesday.

“In addition to naming an ambassador we also feel it is essential to
intensify contacts between chambers of commerce in order to increase trade and
communication among entrepreneurs between Estonia and Mongolia,” Foreign
Minister Urmas Paet said.

Paet stated that Estonia supports Mongolia’s reform process as well as
Mongolia’s efforts to become a member of the Organization for Security and
Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). “We hope that the decision to accept Mongolia as
a member will be made during the OSCE foreign ministers’ meeting in Dublin in
December,” Paet said.

At their meeting, the Estonian and Mongolian foreign ministers also
discussed a new project announced by Estonia and the United States for advising
emerging democracies and their leaders called Leaders Engaged in New
Democracies (LEND), which aims to support modernization in transitioning
countries.
