Mongolia on Wednesday voiced
its strong belief that “every country could and should make its
contribution to promoting the goals of nuclear non-proliferation”, said O.
Enkhtsetseg, the country’s ambassador to the United Nations, when he took the
floor at the conference to review the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) at
the UN Headquarters in New York,
according to a Xinhua report.

In 1992, Mongolia declared its territory a Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone (NWFZ)
“to demonstrate that a viable alternative to ensuring national security by
acquiring nuclear weapons at any cost or by hosting nuclear weapons is to
ensure national security by diplomatic and legal means,” and “has
since been working to institutionalize that status,” she said.
“Today Mongolia“s
nuclear-weapons-free status enjoys a wide international support.”
